Extinct Systems

Extinct Systems

Extinct Systems is a procedurally generated parade of candy-coated walking creatures, built on core parameters that are algorithmically remixed and evolved into infinite variations.

Inspired by the elegant and finely articulated exoskeletons of arthropods, these creatures are simultaneously familiar and bizarre.

Using their smartphones, audiences connect to a website that allows them to create their own walking creature, then tap and flick them onto a single, large-scale canvas that is shared with every other user.

Each person is assigned a certain “spotlight” on the screen, which they can control by rotating their phones. All of the creatures created by a single user follow this spotlight and can be directed throughout the space as they bounce to the music.
